Welcome Beginner Yogis
We are so happy that you’ve decided to join us and our amazing, encouraging community of students and teachers. A regular yoga or hot pilates classes practice will change your life in the most wonderful ways, reducing stress, relieving body pains, and resulting in optimal health of your body. You will increase your strength, balance, and flexibility, be energized, revitalize your mind, and you will eliminate the symptoms of stress produced by the modern lifestyle. You can begin with our introductory rate of $45 for the first month. Complete the waiver online to save yourself time or arrive 20 minutes early for your first class. Bring a yoga mat, beach towel, and water. If you need a mat, towel, water, or clothing for class, it is available to purchase or rent. 90% of all of our first-time students have never practiced yoga before. Every class has brand new, first-time students, so you will feel right at home. Best thing to do is come to our encouraging environment and let today be the day you take your first class … You’ll be so glad you finally got started! If you feel nervous, scared, or a little intimidated, that’s no problem. Many people feel that way initially. Just don’t let it stop you from coming to class! These classes are designed as yoga for beginners, and with a little practice and experience, you’ll quickly feel right at home. We love new students who have never practiced yoga before!
Stay Hydrated
Drink plenty of water throughout the day so you are well hydrated before coming to class. Good hydration supports the healthy function of all of your body’s systems, and it makes the heat feel comfortable rather than overwhelming. Avoid eating heavily before the start of class.
What to Wear
Dress in cool, comfortable clothes. We suggest sporting a tee or tank on top and form-fitting yoga pants, capris or shorts on the bottom. We have a selection of clothing and accessories for both men and women designed specifically for hot yoga.
Equipment Needed
Bring a yoga mat, a large bath towel, and drinking water to each yoga class. We have these items available at the studio for rent or purchase if you need to. Leave watches, cell phones or pagers, food, perfumes, and clutter outside the yoga room. Enjoy distraction free quiet time for yourself.
Check-in
Nothing’s worse than a last-minute stress fest! Do yourself a favor by arriving 15-20 minutes early for classes. Arriving early ensures a stress free and relaxed beginning to your life long hot yoga practice. We start class on time to end on time, out of respect for everyone’s quality of yoga experience. You can save yourself some more time for your first class by purchasing our introductory special and filling out a waiver online. Also, be sure to sign in early and we will get you prepped with a welcome tour of the studio!
Sterling Hot Yoga is For Everybody
Yoga is not about being perfect, simply approaching every posture to the best of your ability. Try your best and you will receive all the benefits. This yoga is for everyone to try and enjoy the process of learning to love your strengths, limitations, and growth!
No need to get in shape to even be flexible before coming to class – that puts the cart before the horse! Come take your first class, and then take class as often as you possibly can and you will quickly lose weight, get in shape, gain flexibility, and feel absolutely wonderful.
It’s helpful to realize everyone’s focus is on themselves – they are focused on breathing and balancing. During class nobody will look at you or judge you. The teachers will guide you and instruct you, always with compassion and respect. There’s no need or reason to be self-conscious. Yoga is not about being perfect. In fact, everyone in the room is rooting for you because we know how amazing this yoga is and want others to experience how wonderful yoga makes us feel!
Community & Reminders
We have a wonderful, encouraging, supportive community. We can’t wait for you to experience the love and support of your first class! Remember, everyone had their very first hot yoga class, even the people in front of you who have been practicing for years. They make it look easy because they persevered, and you can too. We open the studio 30 minutes before and close 30 minutes after each class. Please be mindful of the time during showers and personal routine. Enjoy the peace and energy you are taking with you from class and make the commitment to return tomorrow.
Listen to Your Body
You will feel challenged by yoga during class – everyone does! Always work to your edge but listen to your body and your inner wisdom. Take good care of yourself during class.
Be Patient
Be patient and kind to yourself and others around you. Respect any signals that your body is sending you. If you need to back off a posture or sit down honor and listen your body.
Acclimate
Your body will acclimate and improve quickly giving you the ability to breathe relaxed, move efficiently and find serenity in-between and during postures.
See it Through
Do your very best to stay in the yoga room for the entire class. Check and make eye contact with the teacher if you feel you need to leave.
Cadence
Take your second class within 24 hours. The second class will help you bypass any soreness you’d otherwise experience.
Jump In
Make up your mind to take 10 classes as quickly as possible, at least within a month – then no one has to tell you how good this yoga is for you.
