Getting Started

IF YOU FEEL NERVOUS, SCARED OR A LITTLE INTIMIDATED, THAT’S NO PROBLEM.

Many people feel that way initially. Just don’t let it stop you from coming to class! These classes are designed for beginners, and with a little practice and experience, you’ll quickly feel right at home. We love new students who have never practiced yoga before!

Prepping For Class

HYDRATE

Drink plenty of water throughout the day so you’re well hydrated before coming to class. Good hydration supports the healthy function of all of your body’s systems, and it makes the heat feel comfortable rather than overwhelming. Avoid eating heavily within 2 hours of the start of class.

CLOTHING

Dress in cool, comfortable clothes. We suggest sporting a tee or tank on top and form-fitting yoga pants, capris or shorts on the bottom. Avoid long sleeves, socks or pants. We have a selection of clothing and accessories for both men and women designed specifically for hot yoga.

EQUIPMENT

Yoga mat, a large bath towel, and drinking water. We have these items available at the studio for rent or sale.

LESS IS MORE

Leave watches, cell phones or pagers, food, perfumes and clutter outside the Yoga room. Enjoy distraction free quiet time for yourself.

Sterling Hot Yoga is For Every Body

YOGA IS A PRACTICE, NOT A PERFECT!

Yoga is not about being perfect, simply approach every posture to the best of your ability. Try your best and you will receive all the benefits. This yoga is for everyone to try and enjoy the process of learning to love your strengths, limitations and growth!

AM I READY?

No need to get in shape to even be flexible before coming to class – that puts the cart before the horse! Come take your first class, and then take class as often as you possibly can and you will quickly lose weight, get in shape, gain flexibility and feel absolutely wonderful.

FOCUS

It’s helpful to realize everyone’s focus is on themselves – they are focused on breathing and balancing. During class nobody will look at you or judge you. The teacher will guide you and instruct you, always with compassion and respect. There’s no need or reason to be self-conscious. Yoga is not about being perfect. In fact everyone in the room is rooting for you because we know how amazing this yoga is and want others to experience how wonderful yoga makes us feel!

Community

SUPPORT

We have a wonderful, encouraging, supportive community. We can’t wait for you to experience the love and support your first class! Remember, everyone had their very first hot yoga class, even the people in front of you who have been practicing for years. They make it look easy because they persevered, and you can too.

HOURS

We open the studio 30 minutes before and close 30 minutes after each class. Please be mindful of the time during showers and personal routine.

Enjoy the peace and energy you are taking with you from class and make the commitment to return tomorrow.

Sterling Safety and Reminders

You will feel challenged by the yoga during class – everyone does! Always work to your edge, but listen to your body and your inner wisdom. Take good care of yourself during class. Be patient and kind to yourself and others around you during class. Respect any signals that your body is sending you. If you need to back off a posture or sit down honor and listen your body.

Your body will acclimatize and improve quickly giving you the ability breathe relaxed, move efficiently and find serenity in-between and during postures. Do your very best to stay in the yoga room for the entire class. Check and make eye contact with the teacher if you feel you need to leave.

Take your second class within 24 hours. The second class will help you bypass any soreness you’d otherwise experience. Make up your mind to take 10 classes as quickly as possible, at least within a month – then no one has to tell you how good this yoga is for you.
